Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is a 30 minute drive from Roseville. The recreational area surrounds Folsom Lake in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. If you are looking to get out and into nature this may be your next destination!
The park offers 4 separate campgrounds to include Peninsula campground, Beals Point campground, Negro Bar Group campsites and Avery’s Pond environmental campsites. The Nimbus Dam and Lake Natoma are also included in the vicinity of the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area.
Some of the wildlife that can be seen in the vicinity include black-tailed deer, squirrel, raccoon, skunk, opossum, gray fox, rabbit and coyotes. Muskrat and Beaver live in the Mormon Island Wetlands, which is also a perfect area for bird watching. Mountain lions and bobcats are seen occasionally.
